(51275 mi) Car Won't START! AUUGGGH!

After driving to the local Smart and Final, I went out to the car to drive home and nothing!  The car would do nothing.  The power worked, and the ammeter showed some huge draw on the battery.  When I turned the key, nothing happened.

There was absolutely no indication what was going wrong.  It was dark, and my passenger was Johnny-on-the-spot with a light produced from his phone.  We started disconnecting electrical parts.  Once we disconnected the generator, the power drain was gone.  Thankfully, I bought a replacement generator in expectation of this event.

  1. Hey, how's the car now? Have you figure you out the problem? I suppose too that the problem is connected with the battery or its post and cables; they are either dirty or flooded. Another thing that will cause battery failure is if you have a habit of leaving the AC/DC or the radio on when the car isn't running.

  2. The car is running reasonably well. I had been driving with a whacky Voltage Regulator which was burning out bulbs and causing a mess. I checked everything else, but I'm still going to have the starter re-built just to be sure. (The starter hasn't seen any major rebuild since 1992.)

    Thanks for asking!

  3. Driving with a whacky voltage regulator? I wonder how you patiently drove your car in case it burns out the bulbs. Hmm. I hope you fixed all the mess by now. Did you change that messy voltage regulator? I hope you already did. :)

  4. Since 1992? Wow. It certainly needs a rebuild, seeing as it could be quite worn down by now. Hopefully you’re not having any more problems with the other parts of the engine and took the time to check everything else that needed replacing.
